What's it like living with a Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports? Find out here...
Tested by Steve Herbert-Mattick, Group Art Director
I had a CRF1000L Africa Twin when it was reintroduced in 2016 and loved it for its stance, styling and superb ride quality, despite the Honda lacking the swanky electronics of its rivals.
My 2023 was split between a brace of brilliant Yamahas – the Ténéré 700 World Raid (which I massively enjoyed even if it was tall and heavy, and its parallel-twin engine a bit slow) and the Tracer 9 GT+ which proved a mighty, tech-laden sports touring triple but with many annoying niggles.
Hopefully the new 1100cc Africa Twin Adventure Sports (or ATAS for short) will sit smack between the two with plenty of power, refinement and toys housed in the type of big adventure bike frame I’m such a fan of. A couple of touring trips and some big-mile days out are planned in for this year, and I’m thinking hard about some knobbly tyres to see if the new 19in front wheel has curbed its dirt capabilities.
